Help Save the Santos Trails and the Office of Greenways and Trails!
The Senate General Government Appropriations Committee has proposed the elimination of the Office of Greenways and Trails, by merging the OGT into the State Park system. This move is being proposed to save a relatively small amount of money.
The mission and mandate of the OGT differs from that of the State Parks system, and could have potentially devastating impacts on our ability to retain our current trail system, as well as construct new trails. Please contact the Senators on this Committee at the following addresses. In addition, please keep your eyes on the forums at www.omba.org for more information, as well as a sample letter to send to the Senators. Please help us preserve what we have worked so hard to create!
Thanks, Rob Ern, VP, OMBA

The OMBA National Mountain Bike Patrol
training held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Taylor College was a
great success!
We had a total of 27 people in the class, taught by OMBA
President Tim Mulhall and Vice-President Rob Ern. Of the 27, 9 were
patrollers who were re-certified in CPR and First Aid. The remaining 18
are new patrollers!
Thanks to everyone who came to be certified,
adding to the already great ranks of the OMBA Bike Patrol! Look for
these new faces on the trails, and be sure to say hello to these
dedicated volunteers!

Many thanks to the 9 volunteers who braved the cold rain Saturday for the betterment of our trails! Despite the weather, we had a great work day, sponsored by Gone Riding Race Promotions . We had a small crew working on preparing the race course for the upcoming Florida State Championship Series final race at Santos on December 13th. The rest of the crew continued working on the new CR484 to SR200 trail extension. Even with the small turnout, we were able to completely finish the chainsaw, trimming and mowing of the new corridor all the way to the end, as well as a small portion of the raking.
However, there still remains raking to be done, and that will likely be some of the focus for the January work day. The trail is rideable, however, so if you are out on the west end of the system, feel free to get some tires on the new dirt! It'll be soft, but fun!
Look forward to seeing OMBA represented at the race on the 13th. Remember, if you can volunteer to marshall the course, or help sell sme OMBA swag, please email me, or just show up at 8 am on the 13th!
Thanks,
Rob Ern, VP
